In assembly this morning we reminded ourselves about the importance of having a growth mindset and the problems having a fixed mindset can have on our school work, and life.
Mindset determines how you interpret and respond to situations. Your mindset is also known as your attitude and it’s how you think and feel rather than what you can or can’t do. Historically scientists believed, no matter how hard you worked, your intelligence stayed the same. Now, it is believed that everyone has the chance of being just as brilliant as the next person. It is about having the right attitude.
I told the children about Steve Jobs, J.K Rowling, Walt Disney and Albert Einstein. All of these remarkable individuals overcame obstacles to become influential people of our time. Steve Jobs was asked to leave the computer company created before Apple was founded, J.K Rowling was turned now by 13 published before the 14th loved Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Walt Disney was told he lacked imagination and Albert Einstein didn’t speak until he was 4 or learn to read until he was 7. These examples show Growth Mindset – each and every person didn’t give up!
Next time you or your child/ren find something difficult, are stuck or have made a mistake, encourage them to remember …
- Hear their fixed mindset voice
- Choose to adopt a growth mindset
- Speak with a growth mindset
- Act with a growth mindset (try again, listen to advice, try a different technique)
